NVENC, Nvidia’s hardware video encoder, is integrated into Nvidia’s dedicated GPUs. This encoder encodes the video stream from the CPU and uses your dedicated Nvidia graphics card instead. NVENC is NVIDIA’s encoder. This is a section of GPUs dedicated to coding only.
Your GPU will continue to function normally whether this area is used for streaming or recording. Other encoders, such as x264, use your CPU to encode. This can cause programs, such as CPU-intensive games, to run out of resources. With NVENC you play games with a higher frame rate and prevent stuttering. This will give you a better gaming experience.
NVENC supported GPUs
NVENC support goes way back, so you’re probably safe buying a new graphics card from Nvidia if you want to take advantage of NVENC encryption. We can pick an older one, like the GeForce GT 640, as a card where most of the revisions supported NVENC – and that GPU is from way back in 2012!
