NVENC, Nvidia’s hardware video encoder, is integrated into Nvidia’s dedicated GPUs. This encoder encodes the video stream from the CPU and uses your dedicated Nvidia graphics card instead. NVENC is NVIDIA’s encoder. This is a section of GPUs dedicated to coding only.

Your GPU will continue to function normally whether this area is used for streaming or recording. Other encoders, such as x264, use your CPU to encode. This can cause programs, such as CPU-intensive games, to run out of resources. With NVENC you play games with a higher frame rate and prevent stuttering. This will give you a better gaming experience.

NVENC supported GPUs

NVENC support goes way back, so you’re probably safe buying a new graphics card from Nvidia if you want to take advantage of NVENC encryption. We can pick an older one, like the GeForce GT 640, as a card where most of the revisions supported NVENC – and that GPU is from way back in 2012!

NVENC has seen significant improvements over the past two GPU generations and delivers best-in-class output quality. NVENC is available in the GTX 10 series GPUs and offers better quality than x264, the most popular x264 preset, very quickly. NVENC is also available in the newer RTX 20 series GPUs. It performs faster than x264. very fast and similar to x264 mode, a preset that requires an expensive two PC setup.

NVENC is available on all GeForce GTX 1650 Super and higher GPUs, including the GeForce RTX 20 and 30 series. All GPUs use the same NVENC and have the same quality and performance.

NVENC also has the benefit of our NVIDIA video codec SDK, an advanced set that improves encoded quality. It is constantly updated to ensure you get the best out of your NVIDIA card.
